Prescription card offers discounts
November 2nd, 2013
WEST VALLEY — The ProAct Prescription Discount Card Program is designed to provide individuals with little or no prescription coverage access to medications. Since Cattaraugus County implemented the discount card in May 2012, residents have collectively filled more than 3,700 prescriptions and saved more than $200,000.
By working with ProAct, Cattaraugus county has been able to provide residents, regardless of age, income or existing health care coverage, access to prescriptions. Every resident in the county is eligible for the program. The discount card cannot be used in conjunction with any form of insurance to discount co-pays or deductibles. All prescriptions are eligible for a discount, including some pet medications. On average, residents can expect to see savings ranging from 10-20 percent on name brand medications and 20-70 percent on generic medications. In order to use the card, residents can present the discount card at a local pharmacy when filling prescriptions. To ensure the discount card is accepted at a local pharmacy, visit www.NYRxDiscountCard.com or contact the ProAct Help Desk at 1-877-776-2285.
“This program is sure to help all residents in the county, not just those who are uninsured,” said Cathy Mackay, director of the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging. “We encourage every resident, regardless of their healthcare coverage, to keep a card on hand, to ensure they will not have to pay full, cash price for a prescription, in the event their insurance does not provide the coverage.”
This Prescription Discount Card Program does not require applications or enrollment fees to participate. The program is free to taxpayers, the county and to participating residents. If a resident has lost his or her discount card or if an additional card is needed, extras are available at the Cattaraugus County Department of the Aging/NY Connects, most county departments within the county office buildings or at any participating pharmacy in the county. Residents can also obtain a Cattaraugus County discount card by visiting www.NYRxDiscountCard.com.
