Discount prescription drug program available to Cumberland County residents

March 28th, 2013

Cumberland County Freeholder Director William F. Whelan has announced a discount prescription drug program for Cumberland County residents.

The discount program is open to all residents, regardless of their age or income, and is designed to help reduce the cost of prescription drugs. The program bears no cost for residents, according to the county.

“Cumberland County is pleased to partner with ProAct, which offers a discount program that covers all prescription medications, brand or generic,” Whelan said. “The program even extends its coverage to pet medications that can be filled at a regular retail pharmacy.

“On average, participants can expect to save 10 to 20 percent on brand drugs and 20 to 70 percent on generic drugs,” he added.

The prescription discount card may be used at any participating pharmacy in Cumberland County and at more than 55,000 pharmacies nationwide. However, the card cannot be used in conjunction with any other type of insurance, to reduce co-pays or with other discount programs.

Cards are being mailed to all households in Cumberland County over the next few days, and additional cards are available at the Cumberland County office and website,

ProAct is a subsidiary of Kinney Drugs, and the ProAct discounts are made possible through negotiated rates with participating locations.
